About
Flowers have always been important to me. As a young child, I remember visiting my grandmother’s farm in Michigan. She took me to the local Ben Franklin to pick out a toy; I chose a tiny white basket with some little red roses. My dad, even after a lifetime career in the Air Force, remained a Michigan farm boy at heart. I still remember a visit from him shortly after we built our family home over a quarter of a century ago. He brought a gift for me; many stringers of lilacs, several different varieties, wrapped in newspaper. I planted those lilacs close to the house and a window so that I could smell their fragrance each spring. Years later, as empty nesters, we decided to build a smaller home nestled on 3 lush acres in an area filled with songbirds. With a quick sale, I managed to only grab one stringer. By this spring, that tiny lilac start grew into a full bush smothered in blooms. I lost my dad at the start of the pandemic and I am so grateful that I still have one of his lilacs. The beauty of flowers; the tiniest of blooms sparking joy, their fragrance evoking memories have an immense power to speak to our emotions.
I began a small flower farm in Grass Lake, Michigan to share the beauty of flowers with others. Our farm is located in the Waterloo recreational area, on a small lake that we share with nature. I am passionate about growing, creating, and sharing the joy of locally and sustainably sourced flowers with our communities. Becoming a part of a responsible farming community is important to me. As an artist, I know that beauty can change lives; I spent 43 years as a performer, choreographer, teacher and director, witnessing the transformative power of beauty. As a parent of 4 children (triplets!) I often had to make do with what I could find to create light in our home. As I’ve always been inspired by the power of nature, I sought to introduce our children to natural beauty. I hope to combine all of these passions, reaching as many people as possible, through the simple act of sharing flowers with others.
